BATTERIES & ELECTRICAL

Today’s cars have very complex electrical systems. In order for your car to start, your battery, alternator, starter and ignition system all have to be in good working condition as these components combined are very crucial to your vehicle’s performance.

Batteries
Your car battery is one of the most important components of your vehicle. The battery is utilized for all of your car’s electrical needs. Besides supplying enough power to the starter to start the vehicle, it also supplies current for headlights, windshield wipers, heating and air conditioning, your air bag system, the vehicle’s on-board computer systems, and other electronic accessories in the vehicle.

Alternators
The alternator is a vital component of your car’s electrical system. The alternator must generate the proper amount of current to keep your battery charged when the vehicle has varying electoral loads from different accessories. The belt that runs the alternator sometimes known as the serpentine belt or drive belt needs to be checked routinely for cracks and wear. A loose or broken belt can leave you stranded on the road.

Starters
The starter’s job is to crank the engine over to start the car when the key is turned or the start button is pushed. It is equally important to have the starter tested to ensure it is working properly and not drawing too much current from the battery.
